Creating
ASCII Data Files
You
create and edit ASCII
data
files using either the Edit Data Panel or any generic text editing
program. Windows NOTEPAD program can be used for this purpose.
Caution: Do not edit your data file by using a word processor
that saves files only in a special document format. For instance, if you
use Word, remember to save your data as a "Text only" file. If
you save a data file as a formatted Word ".doc" file, Insider
TA will not be able to load it.
Insider TA is also able to append data to your daily or weekly stock
files by extracting stock data from ASCII files downloaded from the Internet.
Refer to the Data Merger Utility for this capability.
Creating a New ASCII
Stock File:
Creating a
new stock data file while in Insider TA is performed by first making sure
that the graph is cleared of all data. The Count field beneath the graph
window should show a value of zero.
How to clear the screen:
If
data is currently in the graph, then Insider TA displays a CLEAR SCREEN
button in the lower right area of the screen. Clicking this button will
pop up a "Clear Screen?" prompt, allowing you to verify your request.
Adding initial data:
After
the screen is empty, left-click the VIEW DATA button. Normally this action
will immediately pop-up the Edit Data Panel. However, since you are creating
a new stock file, Insider TA will bring up the following window:

Unless you cancel by clicking the 3rd button above, the ASCII Field
Formatter Panel
will
then appear, allowing you to enter (1) the data items you want to incorporate,
(2) in which order the data items will be arranged, and (3) how
the volume values are represented (in "hundreds", "thousands",
or "as-is").
Data Downloading:
Downloading ASCII historical data from an Internet-based data service
is the best method. Please note that Insider TA does not have any downloading
facilities. You will need to download the data using your web browser or
one of many available software tools (there are many, refer to our web site
for recommendations).
