Transaction
History Window
The
Transaction History List comprises transaction activity and summarizes
the financial status of outstanding shares after the transaction has occurred.
"NET" dollar values are based either on the price midpoint or
closing (last) price.
The Transaction History List pops-up whenever you click the "Performance"
(or "History") field reflecting Buy/Sell activity. Buy/Sell activity are actual
transactions you've made, and are entered into Insider TA via the Transaction
Field
in
the Edit Data Panel.

Regarding
the above example, note how an investment balance of $0 results after the
third event ("SOLD 100.32 @ 40.625"). Insider TA reports dollar
values of shares outstanding, and does not report your profit/loss after
all shares have been liquidated. Since after the sell, there are zero
shares, it follows that the "balance" is zero.
When the net sum of shares equals zero, as in the preceding example, Insider
TA marks the transaction line as "DONE". If the net sum of shares
is less than zero, then Insider TA assumes you are shorting the stock and
will mark the transaction line with the word "short". No markers
are added when the net sum of shares is greater than zero -- this is considered
a "normal" investment and hence need not be labeled.
Share-weighting
For multiple
buys, sells, and dividends in the same graph, Insider TA will calculate
a share-weighted average of all transactions, as shown in the following
example:
Exercise: Calculate the weighted average of the following two purchases:
1) Buy 1000 shares at $20
2) Buy 500 shares at $10
Solution:

Using
this weighted average, performance values are based on the price data of
the last day (or week) in the data file:
・If the stock file includes closing prices (as defined in the ASCII
Field Formatter Panel),
then the performance is based on this value.
・If the stock file does not contain closing prices, then the performance
is based on the price midpoint (average of High and Low).
Short-selling:
If the net
number of shares is less than zero, then Insider TA will assume you are
short
selling
the
stock, and will calculate your gain/loss status accordingly. In other words,
a positive performance value will be reported when the current price is
below the point you placed your "short-sell" order. If the current
price is higher than your short-sell price, then the performance value will
be negative.
